Risk & Compliance Lead
Why join Archa
Archa is redesigning the way that companies use financial systems to grow their business and empower their teams. For too long, finance teams have been stuck managing corporate spend with tools designed for a different era – shared credit cards, missing receipts, manual expense reports and endless reconciliation.
Archa is changing that. We’re a Melbourne-based fintech disrupting the outdated corporate credit card model and offering companies an all-in-one corporate card and spend management solution, better designed to help companies and their teams operate efficiently. We combine payments, expense management and software to give businesses greater control and visibility over how they spend.
As Archa continues to grow, we’re looking for a Risk & Compliance Lead to own and mature our risk and compliance function, ensuring we can continue to scale responsibly while maintaining a pragmatic and commercially minded approach to risk.
The role
This is a senior, hands-on role with responsibility for Archa’s risk and compliance framework across regulatory and enterprise risk, AML/CTF, financial crime, fraud, operational risk and third-party risk.
You’ll provide oversight and challenge across the business, while working closely with Operations and other teams to ensure our frameworks translate into practical, effective processes. You’ll own the overall view of Archa’s risk environment, establish clear accountability across the business and provide senior leadership and the Risk & Compliance Committee with clear visibility of our key risks and controls.
We’re looking for someone who can move comfortably between strategy and execution – able to advise senior leaders on material risk while also being willing to roll up their sleeves and help build the processes, controls and capabilities we need as we scale.
What you’ll do
- Own and continuously mature Archa’s risk and compliance framework, ensuring key regulatory, financial crime, fraud and operational risks are identified, assessed and appropriately managed.
- Maintain a clear view of Archa’s risk profile through an effective Risk Register, with clear controls, ownership and remediation.
- Lead Archa’s regulatory compliance framework, including oversight of AML/CTF obligations and other regulatory requirements relevant to our business.
- Provide effective second-line oversight and challenge, while establishing clear accountability between first- and second-line activities.
- Own risk and compliance governance, including quarterly Risk & Compliance Committee reporting and clear, decision-useful reporting to senior leadership.
- Oversee Archa’s approach to financial crime and fraud risk, including the ongoing uplift of transaction monitoring, fraud controls and supporting systems.
- Oversee material incidents and control failures, ensuring appropriate investigation, root-cause analysis and remediation.
- Provide risk and compliance input into new products, partnerships and third-party relationships, helping teams identify and manage risk early.
- Lead and develop the Risk & Compliance Specialist and partner across Operations, Credit, Product and Finance to embed strong risk practices throughout the business.
About you
- You’re a pragmatic risk leader who sees strong risk management as an enabler of good commercial decision-making, not a blocker to growth.
- You can translate complex regulatory requirements into practical frameworks and processes that work in a lean, fast-moving business.
- You’re comfortable operating at multiple levels – from presenting to senior leadership and governance committees to getting into the detail of a control, incident or operational process.
- You’re an excellent communicator who can distill complex risk issues into clear implications and recommendations, influence senior stakeholders and provide constructive challenge.
- You’re a builder. You enjoy creating structure, improving what already exists and taking ownership in an environment where not everything has an established playbook.
What we’re looking for
- Significant experience in risk and compliance within financial services, with experience operating at a senior level.
- Strong knowledge of Australian financial services regulation and demonstrated experience across AML/CTF, financial crime and fraud risk.
- Experience designing and overseeing risk and compliance frameworks, including risk assessments, controls, assurance and remediation.
- Experience preparing and presenting risk and compliance matters to senior leadership, Board or risk/audit committees.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and constructively challenge senior leaders.
- A track record of being hands-on and delivery-oriented, rather than operating solely in an advisory or review capacity.
- Experience in fintech, payments, card issuing or another high-growth financial services environment would be highly regarded.
Working at Archa
Archa is a hard-working, collaborative and ambitious team. We challenge the status quo, move quickly and take ownership of the problems in front of us.
You’ll be joining Archa at an important stage of growth, with the opportunity to shape how Risk & Compliance operates as our products, partnerships and customer base scale. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and teams across the business, with meaningful ownership over the development of the function.
We want this to be a place where you can have a genuine impact – building a risk and compliance capability that is rigorous, pragmatic and appropriate for the business Archa is becoming.
